How much does NIS2 cost in the Czech Republic?
Implementing Czech Act No. 264/2025 Coll. on Cybersecurity, which transposes NIS2, costs roughly CZK 800,000 to 1,500,000 per protected system according to the government regulatory impact assessment (RIA). Often much less in the lower obligations regime. What decides it is how many systems you have and their state today.
The short answer
The official estimate is in the final RIA report on the act: implementing and then running the security measures costs roughly CZK 800,000 to 1,500,000 per protected system. The report itself calls this a very rough estimate. A company with five systems in scope should therefore expect a multiple of that, unless the measures are already in place.
For the lower obligations regime the RIA expects the costs may not be significant: it is mainly administration and the role of a designated person, which can be outsourced and takes days, at most weeks, a year.
Nobody outside your company can give you an exact figure. The RIA says so directly: only the regulated organisation can quantify its own costs, because they depend on what it already has.
What the cost is made of
| Item | Who does it | Indicative cost |
|---|---|---|
| Assessing whether the law applies | You, by self-assessment under the NÚKIB methodology, or with a lawyer | Notification and registration with NÚKIB are free. Legal advice at your lawyer's rates. |
| Designated person, cybersecurity manager | An employee, or an external person (can be shared) | In the lower regime, days to weeks of work a year according to the RIA. The higher regime needs more people. |
| Organisational measures | Security, management, an external consultant | First-year data under the previous act: around CZK 300,000 per system on average (RIA). |
| Technical measures | IT, operations, DevOps, suppliers | The same data: around CZK 1,233,000 per system on average. Logging, access, backups, vulnerabilities, encryption. |
| Running costs in later years | Whoever keeps the measures in place | The costs recur every year, they are not one-off (RIA). How much depends on how much is automated. |
The CZK 300,000 and 1,233,000 averages come from 2017, from 77 systems regulated under the previous act, and cover the first year of implementation. The RIA calls them very rough estimates. They concern systems at the higher level of regulation; for the lower regime they are a ceiling, not the expected price.
What raises the cost and what lowers it
- Number of systems in scope
- The RIA estimate is per system, and the total is a multiple of it. Sharing measures across systems (one logging stack, one identity platform) lowers it.
- Your security today
- The biggest variable. If you already have MFA, central logs and tested backups, you add evidence, not technology.
- Obligation regime
- The higher regime (Decree No. 409/2025 Coll.) has broader measures and more roles than the lower one (Decree No. 410/2025 Coll.).
- Cloud and automation
- In a public cloud much of the technical side is configuration, not purchase: logs, encryption and access can be switched on and proven in code.
- Security versus ordinary IT
- The RIA notes that the two overlap. Part of what the law asks for is work you should be doing anyway.
What doing nothing costs
According to NÚKIB, fines reach CZK 250 million or 2 % of worldwide annual turnover, and the act also allows a ban on management performing their function.
You have one year from the day the registration decision is delivered to put the security measures in place.
According to NÚKIB (in Czech), 4,825 entities had notified by February 2026, out of roughly 6,000 expected.
What we do at a fixed price
NIS2: technical analysis: CZK 120,000 excl. VAT, 3 to 4 weeks, up to 10 systems, the technical side without legal advice. You get a verified current state and a remediation plan with effort and price: your own figure instead of the RIA estimate. What the analysis covers →
We can carry out the remediation as a fixed-price project, or the Managed DevOps team takes it over for CZK 263,000 per month excl. VAT, 12-month contract. All services and prices →
We do not give legal interpretation, assess whether the law applies to you, or write an ISMS and certification documents.
Frequently asked questions
How much does NIS2 cost a small company?
Small and medium companies mostly fall into the lower obligations regime. According to the RIA this is mainly an administrative burden and the costs may not be significant, because companies usually have some of the measures already. The designated person can be external, and the role takes days to weeks a year.
How much does implementing NIS2 cost per system?
According to the final RIA report on Czech Act No. 264/2025 Coll., roughly CZK 800,000 to 1,500,000 per protected system, for implementing and running the security measures. The report calls this a very rough estimate.
Is there a fee for registering with NÚKIB?
No. Notification and registration go through the NÚKIB portal free of charge. The cost is in implementing the measures.
What is the fine for not complying with NIS2 in Czechia?
According to NÚKIB, up to CZK 250 million or 2 % of worldwide annual turnover. The act also allows a ban on members of management performing their function.
How do I find out what it will cost us?
By comparing your current state with the requirements of the decree. That is a gap analysis: it shows what is met, what is missing and what closing the gap costs. We do the technical side for CZK 120,000 excl. VAT.
